Everyone asks how I began studying Egyptian, and the story is fairly straightforward. I loved anything Egypt-related when I was a child (this movie was very influential), and then attended a university that had an Egyptology department. I started hieroglyphics as a freshman and became hooked, taking all the Egyptian language courses I could. Along the way, I became very interested in linguistics, and eventually decided to blend my two interests.

Here are a few handy Egyptology links.
